Jaybird was an ambitious multi-film initiative exploring the central motif of responsibility through four distinct narratives. Serving across camera, lighting, and post-production departments on three of the featured films, I worked across both set execution and edit suites to maintain visual and structural consistency across diverse stories.
Roles: Camera Operator, Gaffer / Lighting, Editor
Project Scope: Multi-narrative film series (3 of 4 films)
Key Focus: Narrative-driven lighting design, multi-departmental workflow, and rhythm-focused editing to build emotional weight around a shared core theme.
Journey
A visual short following a man who discovers a body and embarks on a grueling journey carrying him up a steep hill. Serving as Director of Photography, this project marked my first time shooting on the ARRI Alexa Mini, leveraging its dynamic range and color science to capture the raw, grounded atmosphere of the narrative.
To enhance the psychological tension, I custom-built a SnorriCam rig specifically for the production. While the body-mounted setups didn't make the final edit, we repurposed the custom rig to mount the camera directly onto a trolley for the opening sequence—delivering a smooth, immersive tracking shot that anchors the beginning of the film.
Role: Director of Photography
Camera : ARRI Alexa Mini
Key Focus: Custom rigging (SnorriCam/trolley mount), atmospheric exterior lighting, and high-end digital cinema camera operation.
Pupils Should Know
A visually stunning short film exploring the female sex education system in the UK. Marking my first project as Gaffer, I had the privilege of collaborating closely with DOP Rob Waite and Director Abi Peszel to shape the film's distinct visual mood and lighting architecture.
To achieve a soft, naturalistic aesthetic, the lighting setup relied heavily on an Aputure LS 300X paired with strategic bounce techniques to wrap light seamlessly around the cast and locations.
Role: Gaffer
Director: Abi Peszel
DOP: Rob Waite
Key Equipment: Aputure LS 300X, custom bounce setups
Key Focus: Naturalistic key-lighting, soft light diffusion, and close collaboration with the camera department to establish mood and tone.
Foretaste
A tense narrative short following an environmental radical as he constructs an explosive device and targets a major oil corporation. Taking on a dual role as Assistant Camera (AC) and Editor, I contributed to both the on-set camera technicals and the post-production edit pipeline.
Roles: Assistant Camera (AC) & Editor
Project Type: Student Short Film
Key Focus: Focus pulling and camera prep on set, paired with rhythm-driven editing, tension building, and pacing in post-production.
